President of City University of Hong Kong and Several Distinguished Scholars at GIRS
/On September 25, 2019, Professor Way Kuo, the President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and several Distinguished Scholars, such as Professor Richard M. Walker, Professor Ho Shing Horace Ip, and Professor Chain Tsuan Liu, visited the Garrick Institute for the Risk Sciences (GIRS) to discuss prospective research collaborations.
Professor Kuo assumed the role of President at CityU in 2008 and he is renowned for his work in designing the reliability of electronics systems and nuclear energy. Prior to joining City U, Professor Kuo was University Distinguished Professor, Dean of Engineering at the University of Tennessee (UT), and a member of the senior management team in the US Department of Energy. He is the recipient of several professional awards and has been appointed as an advisor to numerous international organizations. In addition, he has authored and co-authored 8 academic books and over 200 technical papers.
Professor Walker is the Director in the Laboratory for Public Management and Policy and was awarded a Chair Professor in Public Management in 2013 at CityU. In 2012 to 2018, he served as Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He is a member of the editorial boards of several journals and the Vice President of the Public Management Research Association. Professor Walker has consulted for APEC, OCED, UNDP, and governments in Hong Kong and the UK.
Professor Chain Tsuan Liu is a University Distinguished Professor at CityU. In 2015 he was recognized as No. 4 among the 30 highly cited papers published in the Journal of Applied Physics. Some of his research interests include physical metallurgy and mechanical behavior of metals, alloys, nanostructure materials, intermetallic compounds and bulk amorphous alloys.
Professor Ho Shing Horace IP is the Chair Professor of Computer Science and the founding director of the AIMtech Centre at CityU. He is also a founding editor for the International Journal for Multimedia Information Retrieval (Springer). Professor Ip’s research interests include image analysis, interactive media, virtual environment and e-Learning technologies. In 2007, Professor Ip was recognized as one of world’s innovators by the TIME magazine.
